Model village is made entirely of wool

Many of the landmarks of Mersham near Ashford in Kent – population 1,022 – have been knitted by members of the village’s Afternoon Club since 1986.

Creations include the local primary school, the church, both pubs, the local shop, residents playing cricket, and even some of the local teenagers smoking a cigarette outside the bus shelter. The Whole Story

 

 

Cast of hundreds make coat for a boat

THE River Tyne has seen its fair share of exotic vessels over the years, but nothing like that planned for July 12 – a fishing boat covered in a woollen coat. The Whole Story

The ‘Casting Off: A Coat for a Boat’ project is complete, and Friday 12 June marks the first day you can see it in all its glory! It’s going on display at The Custom House in South Shields, and will be there until 21 July. On 12 July it will be launched into the Tyne as part of the Mouth of the Tyne festival. It will also appear at the Knitting and Stitching Show at Alexandra Palace in October and at other galleries around the UK in the following months…

World Wide Knit in Public Day

Is due to commence this year on June 13th, 14th as well as a special treat on the following weekend of June 20th and 21st.  The idea behind this, some may say, mad scheme is to bring knitters out of “the closet” and help bring the world to a better understanding of just how marvelous this craft is. How far reaching, enjoyable, useful, economic proof, generation spanning and therapeutic.
